Therapy for Eating Disorders

Dr. Jenine Saekow

Therapy available in CA, CO, NY.

Struggles with eating and body image often run deeper than food; they’re about control, self-worth, and how we cope with pain.

These challenges are often intensified by social pressures and cultural ideals that shape how we see ourselves and our self-worth. Most patients come to me when they feel stuck in a cycle of dieting, overeating, shame, control, and self-criticism, but now they’re ready to build a more balanced and peaceful relationship with food and their bodies.

Therapy can help you:

  • Change distorted thoughts about food, weight, and self-worth

  • Learn about how sexism and racism have shaped our definitions and expectations about our bodies

  • Identify and address underlying emotional triggers leading to disordered eating

  • Develop healthier coping strategies for managing stress, anxiety, and control

  • Improve self-esteem and reduce shame around eating behaviors

I can also connect with your primary care physician and nutritionist to help you feel supported by a well rounded and experienced team. Ready to find peace with your body and food? Book a free consultation today.

Therapy with me is a mix of these evidence based techniques:

  • Helps you identify and change unhelpful thoughts to improve how you feel and respond to challenges.

  • Focuses on building skills to manage intense emotions, improve communication with others, and tolerate distress.

  • Encourages you to accept difficult emotions in situations you cannot change while committing to actions that align with your values.

  • Teaches you to stay present, reduce reactivity, and respond to stress with greater calm and clarity.

Kind Words from Past Patients

“Dr. Saekow is incredibly compassionate and understanding, and she is able to provide different perspectives to help me think through issues. She was always very encouraging, yet demonstrated great empathy in helping me reframe some of the very emotional issues I was working through.”

-Tech Professional, 30s

“She gave me really specific techniques to immediately address the issues I was facing. She was extremely caring while still being honest so I felt so supported throughout the whole process. She really took the time to understand me but it felt like she knew me right away.”

-Asian American female, 20s

“I was given the tools to help me from spiraling out of control. It made me wish I'd been more proactive in seeking out therapy earlier...because who knows how much more different/better my life could've been.”

About Me

I truly love what I do. I have been providing therapy since 2011, though my work feels like a natural extension of who I am. I’ve known since I was young that I wanted to be a psychologist. I’ve always been the listener in my friend groups and felt emotions deeply. I feel grateful to sit with people during some of their most honest and vulnerable moments.

I’m a San Diegan native, and I’ve loved living in New York City, Palo Alto, and Charlotte. Outside of therapy, I love traveling with friends and family, baking something sweet, and I’m already planning next year’s Super Bowl party.
